Golden Dragon Buses Drive Indonesia’s Transition to Electric Public Transport
In terms of both product technology and market applications, China has become a global leader in the transition to electric public transportation. As a result, China’s successful experience is widely welcomed and recognized by countries and regions in the early stages of their electrification journey.
Golden Dragon Buses, a leading Chinese bus manufacturer, is leveraging its extensive experience in the Chinese market to support overseas clients in their transition to electric public transportation. By offering reliable electric buses and integrated system solutions tailored to local market needs, Golden Dragon is making a significant contribution to this global shift.
This year, Golden Dragon secured an order for 90 12-meter high-floor pure electric buses, marking the largest electric bus order in the Indonesian market to date.
Known as the "Land of a Thousand Islands," Indonesia spans approximately 1.91 million square kilometers and has a population of around 280 million, making it the fourth most populous country in the world. Due to its unique geographical conditions, public transportation in Indonesia relies heavily on roads and air travel. With its large population, the demand for public transport is substantial. Currently, most public buses in Indonesia run on traditional diesel, with only a small number utilizing natural gas or electricity. To reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the Indonesian government issued a decree in 2019 to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles, mandating the gradual adoption of new energy vehicles in government and public transport fleets.
Indonesia’s push for public transport electrification presents significant market opportunities for Chinese bus manufacturers while setting higher demands on their capabilities. To seize these opportunities, bus companies must have the expertise to penetrate the market deeply and provide products and service solutions tailored to Indonesia’s unique needs.
Golden Dragon has a 20-year history in Indonesia, with deep insights and rich experience in the local tourism and passenger transport markets. Building on the features of its earlier models, Golden Dragon has developed lightweight designs compliant with local regulations, enabling higher passenger capacity without exceeding total weight limits. This customization capability has now been successfully extended to its electric bus models, meeting the diverse needs of Indonesia’s electric public transport transition across different regions.
